Environmental & Social Impact Assessment

The Directors and senior management team recognise the importance of and are committed to the highest standards of corporate governance to protect the interests of all stakeholders and deliver the best business performance.

Kanga Potash is following both the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment. Kanga Potash also actively adheres to the mandatory regulations set out in the United Kingdom Bribery Act, 2010. Kanga Potash is committed to following the above Principles, which provide a framework to managers for incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into their mainstream investment decision-making and ownership practices.

Kanga Potash has created an internal framework that incorporates all of these Principles and guides its operations and investment policy. This framework is contained within the Kanga Potash’s ESG Policy.

WSP (Canada), an independent and internationally recognised environmental consultancy with extensive experience in the ROC undertook the ESIA work programme in cooperation with the local consultancy BUTEO

  • Support of local communities (Aug 15 celebrations), pictures/text
  • Operation of Kanga’s weather station since 2017, pictures
  • Drill site restoration (before during after drilling) to see how mother nature takes back used surface area

Base line studies completed in 2019/2020 during the DFS

In relation to the physical, biological or socio-economical environments have been
identified to date

No use of fresh water sources and up to 75% less water usage per tonne than conventional mining methods

Carnallite seams will be solution mined within an uninhibited area

The project requires a very small area with a surface area of c. 3 – 7 km² depending on plant capacity required over 30 years Life of Mine, and no surface tailings.

Expected creation of ca. 800 jobs annually (peak) during the 30-month construction period and the employment of c. 300 permanent staff (600K tpa module) upon successful commissioning of Kanga potash being in operation.
